..Roh’s visit will give Korea opportunities to secure energy suppliers other than the Middle East at a time when the global competition for energy is intensifying. It is worth noting that Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil-producing country, while Egypt is rich in natural gas and Algeria also boasts abundant natural resources.
Roh needs to seek partnerships with the African nations in which Korea can provide capital and technology to develop their information industries and expand infrastructure in return for securing a stable energy supply. It is encouraging that the Federation of Korean Industries has formed a high-powered business delegation, including major industrialists, that will sign business contracts and agreements and discuss promoting economic ties with the region during Roh’s trip.
