The cost of filling up my SUV – a Subaru Forester – jumped from $$35 in early 2005 (that is, before Hurricane Katrina) to $$50 in January 2006.
GM is redesigning a wide range of its SUVs – the gas guzzlers whose sales fell a staggering 20% industry-wide last year. They are focusing, particularly, on full-size pick-up trucks and big SUVs like the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon. GM aims to produce about 250,000 hybrid vehicles by the end of the decade.
China’s Geely Automotive Company brought a compact sedan model to the show, and at $$13,000 it will be the cheapest compact car in the industry.
