‘Road tolls will increase driving’

PLANS for a pay-as-you-go charge on Britain’s busiest roads will increase rather than reduce the distances motorists drive, opponents claim.

Some volunteers in the Seattle pilot drove less, the overall average mileage increased because many drivers used circuitous alternative routes to bypass the most heavily tolled routes.
