Rising oil, asphalt costs delay road projects

State transportation officials are postponing close to $9 million in paving projects because the cost of laying asphalt has unexpectedly skyrocketed in recent months.

Bids for paving projects are averaging about 20 percent more than they did a year ago largely due to increases in crude oil costs, paving officials said.
