Richard Heinberg on Peak Oil and Dan Geer on Internet Privacy and Securit

On Wednesday, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto signed a historic reform bill that will allow foreign companies to access oil and gas fields in the country. The reform is meant to make Mexico’s oil industry more competitive and drive economic growth in the world’s 15th largest economy. Erin takes a look.

Then, Erin is joined by Richard Heinberg, senior fellow at the Post Carbon Institute, to hear his opinion on the big news from Mexico and what it could mean for the rest of the world.

After the break, Erin sits down with computer security analyst Dan Geer to get his take on internet privacy and the security of the financial markets.

And in The Big Deal, Erin is joined by Edward Harrison to talk about all of the latest stories in tech this week, ranging from Uber to Edward Snowden. Take a look!

It is always nice to watch Erin and Richard. I like Erin’s boom-bust show and she is easy on the eye and ear. I have to give a thumbs up to RT for playing this kind of stuff. The Russians seem to be more upfront about PO than others and are talking about it regularly in their MSM. Maybe the Russian gov has reached the conclusion that advertising PO is to their advantage. RT has been playing the PO story for months now.

RT is Russian Television. Sometimes their views seem totally unbiased and sometimes the bias is overwhelming.

“No Russian troops crossed into Ukraine
Follow RT’s LIVE UPDATES on Kiev’s bloody eastern Ukraine campaign”

I guess that is to be expected.

Ron, The same is true of all MSM in the world today, it is all biased, distorted, and one sided, just like we all are, these are basic human traits and very useful defense mechanisms. As long as you are aware of it, it is not a problem. I have been watching and reading some RT for months seeking the Russians’ perspectives on things, particularly the Ukraine crisis. They have some good shows and hosts, like Larry King, Peter Lavelle, and Erin. They are smart, well informed, and incisive. It helps to study both sides of an issue. I am not pro or anti Russian or any other country, I couldn’t care less about nations. I am an antinationalist, meaning I don’t care much about countries and borders, which to me are nothing more than human inventions I don’t like. I like to think of myself as a human animal living on planet Earth.

I watch and read MSM globally with filters so I get the news between the lines. Propaganda is about bending the truth to a purpose it is not necessarily about lies. Lies are dangerous because they destroy the credibility of sources. How many people believe North Korean news, few do. We know there are justifiable lies or contextual lies. For example both GW and Obama lied to the American people. They did this in a distorted contextual way by saying the NSA was not spying on the American people only foreigners. This was true for that program under scrutiny. The lie was that there were secrete programs doing the spying on Americans not being scrutinized in that hearing. So is it a lie or is it being technically not a lie by reason of the program under discussion was not lied about. I look at the bend the global MSM has for perspective on the values, ethics, and meaning a particular society has. So the propaganda itself is educational. If you are internet savvy and have half a brain you can weed through the MSM bias and distortions by checking sources and stories with the pros and cons found on the internet. Many of the GP does not care and or has not the time to dig deeper. So this propaganda is passively effective just because so many people do not care or do not have time to verify it. I also believe some people want to believe the propaganda. It sounds good and makes them feel right, safe, and prosperous. The cornucopians and Wall Street/DC mafia are good at that. I don’t want to leave out any of the rest of the world who are no better. It is the digging deeper that is vital to the getting closer to the truth. Being informed and accurately informed is essential in today’s world of creeping authoritarian governments, mass surveillance, and manipulation/distortions of the truth.

When, as in the Us where 6 men control most of the WEstern news outlets, it is mostly lies and coverups to protect the elite and their puppets. There is little truth.

Here in the Ps, there are still dozens of news outlets not owned by a few powerful men. You get the news from several viewpoints and some are pro and some are anti. There is government corruption being uncovered regularly and prosecuted. That is the amazing part. They actually publicly prosecute and jail their corrupt politicians and corporate heads. I have watched some of the proceedings for hours, on national TV, in real time. THAT is what is missing in the US and Europe.

What are “The Ps”? I don’t know this abbreviation. I cannot place it.

JJ, the expat dude is from the Phillipeans (P’s). The way he talks it is a nirvana on earth. He also says the US is the embodiment of evil and fire and brimestones will rain down from God to crush America. Kinda a like the Westbough Baptists.
