A scheme which encourages Darlington residents to stop using cars is showing great progress, the council says.
The Town On The Move project was launched last March to increase the number of people walking, cycling and using public transport.
An annual census of pupils’ travel behaviour showed a 120% increase in numbers cycling to and from school in the year from January 2005.
And there was a 14% increase in public transport use in target areas.
