Jun. 18–The federal government is “woefully” underinvested in research and development of energy resources.
That’s the message one speaker brought Tuesday to the Mid-America Regulatory Conference on the future of natural gas, which was under way at the Cox Convention Center.
The federal government needs to do a better job of funding research and development into all types of potential energy sources, one speaker told participants Tuesday at a conference about natural gas’ future.
Melanie Kenderdine, associate director for strategic planning at MIT Energy Initiative, said ongoing research and development is needed into all types of energy to keep the nation’s possibilities for the future open.
“As a matter of policy, however, the U.S. is woefully underinvesting in the energy research necessary” to keep reserves growing, Kenderdine said.
