Report Criticizes State Energy Plan

A report from a state panel that questions California’s current energy policies and presents a bleak view of the future now rests one step away from the desk of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has expressed a more positive view of the energy situation.

Electricity users will face “severe shortages in the next few years.” Supplies of natural gas — critical as fuel for home heating and power plants and as a raw material for some manufacturing — are “threatened by declining production in most U.S. supply basins.” The refineries that produce gasoline and diesel to fuel the state’s cars and trucks “are unable to keep up with the mounting need … and must depend on increasing levels of imports.”
