The ultimate availability of land for agriculture may turn all too limited in coming years. As per estimates of the Agriculture Ministry, over eighty thousand hectares, of farm land is being used for broadening the infrastructure facilities every year. The trend is likely to continue in coming years. Alternate use of land is all too many. Farmland is being used for developing industrial estates and Export Processing Zones. The development of road networks in rural areas under the Local Government ministry also takes away arable lands from the farm sector. The setting up of new schools, madrasahs, markets and construction of new homes in rural areas have also caused loss of farm land.
