Putin backs electricity reform

Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, on Friday supported the liberalisation of the electricity sector and told his government to create appropriate conditions for attracting foreign and Russian capital into the power generation sector.

His statement follows acall from Anatoly Chubais, the head of Russia’s electricity monopoly, to allow the transfer of power generation into private hands to encourage investment in the sector.
