Putin Asks Japan to Invest on Siberian Oil Field Development

Russia reiterated Thursday that it will build a pipeline carrying oil from eastern Siberian fields to its Pacific coast for export to Japan and other countries, and it asked Japan to invest in developing the oil fields, Japanese officials said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made the request to Akira Nishino, senior vice minister of economy, trade and industry, and other Japanese government officials visiting Moscow to attend a meeting of Group of Eight energy ministers held earlier in the day.
