The bill would mandate usage of 35 billion gallons of alternative motor fuels by 2025, not by the 2017 deadline proposed by Bush. The measure also is less ambitious than a bill from the Senate that would require usage of 36 billion gallons of biofuels by 2022.Americans consume about 140billion gallons of gasoline annually.
Unlike the Senate plan, the House measure would allow fuels derived from coal, not just agriculture-based fuels like ethanol and biodiesel, to count toward meeting the mandate.
