A BREAKTHROUGH project that turns beer wastewater into electricity has won a $140,000 grant.
The project, a joint initiative between the University of Queensland’s Advanced Wastewater Management Centre and Foster’s, is believed to be the first of its kind in the world.
The technology works by creating a microbial fuel cell, which feeds continuously on the organics in the brewery wastewater, turning it into watts.
The process also produces clean water and renewable, or non-polluting, carbon dioxide.
