British Energy revealed yesterday that it ran up losses of nearly £350m in the first nine months of the year and was forced to switch off a power plant weeks after it was brought back from repair.
The country’s biggest electricity producer saw third-quarter pre-tax losses escalate to £87m – compared with £10m during the same period last year – as it was hit by power cuts at its Hartlepool and Heysham 1 stations.
