Pollution fears over new regulations

New regulations governing the use of recycled fuel oil will raise prices for the road construction business and garages, and may lead to a rise in pollution, an industry body will warn today.

Recovered fuel oil is collected by garages from vehicle engines. When recovered, the oil – used to lubricate engines – can be burnt as a fuel and is extensively used in the asphalt industry and by power plants. However, regulations due to come in to force from December 28 will ban the use of the substance in many of its current applications.
