Mexican state oil company Pemex`s E&P subsidiary (PEP) is studying the possibility of permanently closing the Kab 121 well in the Sonda de Campeche that has been leaking since October 23, local press quoted company executive Mariano Ruiz-Funes Macedo as saying.
An accident during a storm nearly a month ago caused the Kab 101 and Kab 121 wells to start leaking.
While the company was able to replace a control valve to contain the spill from Kab 101 three days after the accident, the Kab 121 leak has still not been totally controlled and the company has suffered two fires onsite.
The second fire, which began on November 20, was still ongoing as of the evening of November 22, a Pemex spokesperson told BNamericas.
