Palm oil merger expected in Malaysia

The Malaysian government said Thursday that it was considering merging three of the country’s palm oil producers, as it seeks to bolster production in one of the nation’s top revenue-producing industries.

Palm oil prices have climbed to their highest in two years, driven by the commodity’s growing use as an alternative energy at a time of rising crude oil prices. Malaysia and Indonesia are the world’s two largest growers of palm oil, controlling 85 percent of global output between them.
