Orlov misses several points about the collapse. We are not one country and one culture. We once proclaimed to be and did everything in the 19th century to mold Americans out of the new immigrants. Those cultures who would not or could not assimilate suffered the greatest discrimination. Multiculturalism has driven middle class culture from center stage and replaced it with hedonism.

In the hinterlands there are many young people who were raised on farms and in their parent’s small businesses. They learned the skills necessary to build things and repair them. Enclaves of those kids will survive the collapse. Some of those kids are hiding in cities with advanced degrees.

He thinks large swaths of the country will fall under the influence of gangs. He overlooks the fact that one third of the country is extremely well armed. Once the fabric of civilization begins to tear, militias will spring up with elected leaders and they will sort out the security issues of the countryside and small towns. War Lords can be dispatched at great distances at low costs.

I have no doubt that in a total collapse we will lose a significant portion of our population. I myself am drug dependent. Once my hypertension medication runs out I am toast. Not a great loss. My son can easily take my place.

What we must remember is that there is nothing wrong with the republican form of government that was agreed upon by the Federalist and Anti Federalist. What has gone wrong is the incremental increase in Federal control that has been brought about by the natural tendencies of bureaucracy mission creep. That process will be reversed with the death of the Federal Reserve and monetary collapse.

I have faith in the original social contract. We will return to it when there is no other choice.
