OPEC has sought to cool the world oil price surge by ramping production by an extra 300,000 barrels a day.
The cartel announced at the weekend that its member states had lifted production to 30.4 million barrels a day over the past two weeks. The president of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, Sheikh Ahmed Fahd Al Ahmed Al Sabah, said the market “had begun returning to normal”.
