JERUSALEM – Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Sunday he expects
Israel to sign a deal to receive gas supplies from Russia in about a year.
Olmert told a Moscow radio station after a meeting with top officials from Russian giant Gazprom that a decision was made to reach a final agreement quickly for Israel to receive gas supplies from Russia through a pipeline via Turkey.
“We have an agreement in principle and we have to do all that is necessary to implement this and I think in a year’s time we can sign an agreement with (Russian President) Mr. (Vladimir) Putin on delivery of Russian gas and we can build a pipeline,” Olmert said.
Olmert on Sunday met with Gazprom Chief Executive Alexi Miller on his visit to Israel.
