Oilsands Project to Use Bituman Instead of Natural Gas to Produce Steam

The project will be the first oilsands development to practically eliminate the use of natural gas to generate steam, instead using OPTI’s patented process to turn the heaviest portion of each barrel of bitumen into a synthetic fuel. The companies have said the process could offer an operating cost advantage of as much as $9 a barrel.
