Oil Price Surge Wreaks Havoc on Transport, Farm Sectors (Thailand)

Bangkok Post News – The oil price surge continues to take its toll as thousands of truck drivers have been forced to stop transporting goods while northeastern farmers may need to return to using traditional farming methods to plough their paddy. ”Over 2,000 trucks have already stopped running because there have been no orders,” said goods transport association chairman Boonian Srisaensuchart.

He said consumers were spending less due to higher commodity prices and this had prompted goods suppliers to cut their orders for transport services. This put an added burden on truckers, who have been faced with soaring diesel prices, currently standing at 27 baht a litre.
