Oil end game

The Austrian Prime Minister, whose country now holds the EU rotating presidency for the next six months, told the European Parliament in Strasbourg that the EU needed to promote long-term investment in energy and look for real long-term solutions.

Caroline Lucus MEP, UK Green Party, tabled a question at the European Parliament in December asking it to debate what is called “peak oil” or the mid-point of hydro carbon depletion.
The French Prime Minister as early as last year told the French public that the age of oil is coming to an end.

The United Kingdom has a large balance of payments deficit due to the fact that it has become a net energy importer for the first time in 30 years.

Farmers around the world are feeling the pinch of the cost of fertilizers derived from natural gas and oil, driving some of them out of business – and they are the people who feed us! Most of the food we will sit down to eat this evening will have made a fossil fuel journey of literally thousands of miles from field to plate. This will not be possible in the near future and 99 per cent of our food will have to be produced locally. What so many people don’t realise is that without natural gas and petroleum products we will have difficulty feeding the global population. Neither do people realise that most of our modern medicines are derived from oil.
