No quick fix to power problem

The restaurant turns to gas for cooking but other businesses at the mall and ATM machines shut down completely when the power is out. Shoprite and other large buildings like Workers House and Communications House are lucky to own generators but it is not clear how long they will hold out if the loadshedding continues. Generators need diesel, diesel costs money.

Most people were surprised by the rate at which things went from bad to worse.
Until press reports showed problems at the Jinja dams, neither government agency nor the Electricity Regulatory Authority had warned of the crisis.
