Should the deadlock over natural gas flow from Iran to Turkey continue, the gas flow to Ankara, among many other cities, will suffer serious cuts, reporters said.
Iran, where gas is bought from, and the Ukraine, where gas passes through, are reducing the amount of gas flow to Turkey to fulfill their own needs first in the cold weather. After Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the amount of direct gas flowing from Russia to Turkey via the Blue Stream line increased.
Hilmi Guler the Minister of Energy and Erdogan told reporters that the current gas crisis will not affect “houses.” The supply of gas to some power plants in industrial districts was suspended.
Households might possibly suffer frequent cuts of natural gas in upcoming weeks in the event that Iran refuses to increase the amount of gas supply that is currently at a “minimum” rate, said officials of BOTAS, a state-run natural gas provider. Nearly 65 percent of natural gas is provided by Iran to Turkey, officials said.
