Executive Director (External Relations) with Shell Petroleum Development Company and ministerial nominee from Bayelsa State, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke told Senate yesterday that Nigeria loses between 660,000 to 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day, totaling $1.3 billion in revenue per month to the crisis in the Niger Delta region.
She pointed out that the losses began since early 2006, adding that there was need to do something to bring about stability in the region
According to her, “Let me point out that since early 2006, we have consistently lost in the region of 660,000 to 700,000 barrels of oil per day.
“We have lost revenue on oil production in the region of $1.3 billion per month. That is a colossal figure to the nation and the country. “It is therefore imperative that something is done to bring about a certain level of peace and stability in that region. It is a fact the region has continued to suffer from poverty and neglect.”
