Experts as well as professionals in the energy sector will meet next month in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to deliberate on the ways out of the current energy crisis in the country.
The discussions which would be organised by the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Rural Electrification Agency and BAS Associates Consulting, will focus on how to create awareness about other sources of alternative energy that could be tapped by millions of Nigerians as well as other Africans.
Mr Bolade Soremekun, a member of the organising committee, said the summit which is about the International Renewable Energy Conference (IREC), arose out of a desire to find alternative solutions to the power problems in Nigeria.
He said the conference hopes to educate on the issues of climate change, global warming, carbon emissions and environmental damage as well as examine mitigation strategies.
Other areas the summit will look into include, creating avenues for harnessing opportunities of Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) available within the country, creating opportunities for various stakeholders in the Renewable Energy (RE) sector to cooperate in the commercial development of RETs and to encourage and stimulate the development of the industry in Africa.
