WILD protests, weekend greeted introduction of new pre-paid meter pilot project of the Enugu Distribution zone of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) as residents accused officials of disrupting power supplier.
Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, alleged that the PHCN officials disrupted his supply unjustly and assaulted his wife when they visited his house to install the new meters.
But in a swift reaction yesterday, the PHCN dismissed the allegations saying the Commissioner’s aides had manhandled their staff even when they (the staff) had taken steps to explain to the Commissioner and his wife their mission to his house.
Ogbodo in a petition to the Chief Executive Officer of PHCN in the Zone, said the company’s officials had without adequate notice invaded his residence and proceeded to disrupt his power supply, under the guise of installing the new meter.
