According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. will rely mostly on so-called cellulosic ethanol to meet its biofuel requirements over the next decade: About $50 billion of the $59 billion projected investment in renewable fuels through 2022 will come in cellulosic ethanol, the EPA figures.
We chatted with Verenium chief executive Carlos Riva about the new rules, and the economic challenges that still dog next-generation ethanol.
