The cabinet sent the Security of Energy Supplies and Foreign Policy memorandum to the Lower House Friday. The memorandum is a reaction to recommendations by the Advisory Council for International Affairs (AIV) and the General Energy Council (AER) in January.
The long-term goal of Dutch energy policy is and remains the transition to a sustainable energy management that is less dependent on oil and gas, guarantees security of energy supplies and leads to lower emissions to realise the long-term goals for climate and air pollution. But in the short-term, the Netherlands wants to enter into “structural relations” with governments of oil and gas producing countries.
