Meeting Energy Needs In Langtang

Langtang is the third most popular trekking destination after Everest and the Annapurna in Nepal. Tourist arrivals show that it hosts no less than 6, 000 visitors annually.

One of the challenges in Langtang is that the local people as well as tourism entrepreneurs are heavily dependent on the forest to cook their meals, keep their rooms warm and serve hot water to guests. Hoteliers have been making all the effort they can to sustain the environment and save the depleting forest resources. Every hotel is thinking about alternative energy options to enhance the greenery, save the biodiversity and make their lives easy.

As a solution to this ever-growing problem, recently they installed a micro-hydro plant on the Chhudachhu Khola at Langtang with the technical and financial contributions from different donor communities and the local people.
