Antoine Whiting’s decision to steal $10 worth of gasoline earlier this year has landed him in prison.
Porter Superior Judge Bill Alexa sentenced the 32-year-old Valparaiso man Friday to three years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to a felony count of theft, Porter County Deputy Prosecutor Mike Drenth said.
Whiting is eligible to complete the term in half the time with credit for good behavior and participation in prison programs. He also has credit for time already served.
Whiting was accused of stealing the gasoline May 14 from the Family Express store on West Lincolnway in Valparaiso. Police said the store manager began chasing Whiting and crashed his car twice during the 10-minute pursuit. Police said the chase ended on Peridot Court in Union Township, where Whiting ran over the store manager.
