Mad Max was an interesting take on the future in Australia. I suspect that we are in for some variation of that scenario. Look around and see how close we already are.

“It’s likely that the young women, who are missing in the grave, were kidnapped by the attackers,” said Meyer.

Mad Max has always struck me as stupid. I mean, in a world where society has broken down, where would they find the gasoline to run even a moped for a few days, let alone the gas-guzzling 4-ton monstrosities that all the characters seem to be racing around in for months at a time?

Contrary to showing a world where all resources are dwindling, Mad Max shows a world in which gasoline is the only thing NOT in short supply.

It’s funny. We’re the middle ages like mad max? Was the 18th century like mad max? Was 1900 like mad max? All times without precious oil and guess what, no chaos! There was of course much more disease and hunger though and let’s not forget massive social imbalance and prejudice, but much less mad maxism than many would think.

joe, there has been plenty of regional Mad Max incidents throughout history every time an overshoot situation occurs. This one will be global because in addition to the energy/resource shortages EVERYONE will have to deal with the consequences of AGW, ocean acidification and the 6th mass extinction. Oh and we have tons of weapons of mass destruction too. It is inevitable.
