Some experts estimate that in 15 years from now those reserves will be close to being exhausted. That means that the United States will have to look to other sources for natural gas.
If Canadian natural gas is no longer available via these pipelines, then the United States will have no choice but to import liquefied natural gas from the Andes. The great advantage that Latin American countries possess is that it takes around five to seven days to ship this energy source to the United States, whereas it takes fourteen days to arrive from Russia.
But with such a huge market that is the United States, most of Latin America’s natural gas remains underground where countries do not invest in the technology to extract it, neither do they endeavour to produce it, therefore it remains a huge unrealised potential.
