Jordan raises fuel prices to reduce budget deficit

AMMAN — Jordan has decided to raise prices of fuel derivatives in a bid to reduce budget deficit, a government spokesman announced on Sunday.

The prices of regular gasoline went up from 0.544 U.S. dollar to 0.607 dollar per litre, while super gasoline rose from 0.713 dollar to 0.855 dollar, unleaded gasoline from 0.769 dollar to 0.904 dollar, diesel and kerosene from 0.285 dollar to 0.445 dollar per litre, according to spokesman Nasser Judeh.

The price of cooking and heating was also increased from 5.29 dollars to 6 dollars per cylinder, said Judeh.

Meanwhile, he said that the prices of electricity and bread will not change and the government will disburse financial assistance to citizens on low and medium incomes to offset the price hike.
