“We are prepared to give test-drilling rights to exploration companies after a government survey released Friday found a layer that contains natural gas and oil in the Japanese seabed just south of two gas fields developed by China,” Nakagawa said at a news conference.
“We have repeatedly asked China to stop natural resources development and provide data on its gas projects to Japan. Unless Beijing sincerely responds within one week, we have to start necessary procedures,” the minister said, adding that the government will seek China’s response through diplomatic channels.
