Japan and four Central Asian countries held a one-day foreign ministerial meeting on Monday in Tokyo, drawing up an action plan for regional cooperation on a range of issues, including terrorism, drugs, oil transportation, the environment and energy development.
The action plan calls for improving the capacity of border management to prevent the proliferation of terrorism and drugs and in making transportation more accessible in Central Asia, as part of concrete measures for regional cooperation, according to Japanese officials.
According to the plan, Japan is scheduled to help in the road infrastructure of Tajikistan as part of efforts to create a “southern route” which will link Central Asia to the south via Afghanistan and make it easier to transport resources such as oil and natural gas.
