Jamaica, Venezuela to sign energy pact

The Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez, arrives in Jamaica tomorrow for a one-day visit that will culminate with the signing of an energy co-operation agreement between Kingston and Caracas, but will also likely create unease in Washington where Chavez is viewed as a regional troublemaker.

This will be Chavez’s second visit to the island, having previously been here in 1999, and he will arrive from Cuba where he has been having talks with America’s other nemesis in the region, Fidel Castro.
