Italy’s energy regulator: strategic gas reserves ‘insufficient’

Italy’s chief energy regulator, Alessandro Ortis, said Italy’s strategic gas reserves are ‘insufficient’ for emergencies.

Ortis, who chairs the Authority for Electric Energy and Gas, told a parliamentary hearing the insufficiency has been highlighted by extreme weather events last year and current gas supply difficulties.

These factors ‘are revealing insufficiencies in meeting adequately the bigger seasonal demand for gas’, he said.
