Iran explores oil for Syria and Iraq

A leading Iranian company is in talks with Iraq and Syria on oil exploration in the two countries.

Hassan Mohammadi-Moqaddam, managing director of Iran Oil Exploration Operation Company, told Fars news agency that the company is in talks with Syria on possible cooperation, stressing that the company’s experts have already visited the areas in which oil exploration projects are situated.

The official said the company is also involved in negotiations with Iraqi authorities on its possible participation in oil exploration projects in southwestern Iraq.

He further noted that the company is currently conducting an oil exploration project in the Caspian Sea.
Iranian authorities have expressed their willingness to embark on oil cooperation with Iraq. However the Iraqi side has not yet made a firm decision on the issue.
