Indian oil minister to visit Norway to boost energy cooperation

India’s oil minister was due to travel to Norway from Monday to discuss possible joint exploration and production deals on the subcontinent and elsewhere.

“We see the possibility of a long-term partnership with Norway in the energy sector,” said the official who was due to accompany the minister, Mani Shankar Aiyar, on the three-day trip.

India hopes to tap the expertise of the Scandinavian country in deep sea exploration gained in North Sea fields, he said.

New Delhi also wants to attract Norwegian companies to participate in exploration and production blocks in India, and to launch joint bids for exploitation of energy resources in third countries, he said.
