The hydrogen economy is a billion-dollar research industry. SA [South Africa], with its R5m/year investment, is a mere dabbler. But now government wants to join a hi-tech game that could add value to SA’s most precious resources and position the country as a player in a new technology arena.
SA’s mineral resources and technology assets hold the key to this future. The hydrogen economy is no longer the pie-in-the-sky preserve of futurists and scientists. Though hydrogen fuel cell technology is in the pre-commercialisation phase, the technology does work and applications that make use of it are becoming evident.
