Chocolate maker, hit by higher energy costs, increases wholesale prices by about 3%.
HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) — Chocolate maker Hershey Co., faced with rising costs for commodities and energy, said Monday it will boost its wholesale prices by about 3 percent on one-third of its domestic candy line.
The price increase — effective immediately — covers the company’s standard bar, king-size bar, 6-pack and vending lines.
The company said the price increase will help it offset higher costs for raw materials, fuel, utilities and transportation. Hershey (HSY, Fortune 500), like other food makers, has been hit hard by the high cost of gas, heat and commodities.
The price of milk in particular has skyrocketed due to international demand and higher prices for grain, which has made animal feed more expensive.
