Greenspan also said there is little doubt that profit margins for U.S. companies were “flattening out” and that the economy is slowing, the newspaper reported. Greenspan made the comments Monday evening before some 800 members of the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council.
Greenspan, in response to a question, also called for an increase in gasoline taxes. “Yes, I would. That’s the way to get consumption down … It’s a national security issue,” the newspaper quoted the former Fed chairman as saying.
