President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has promised to lower the price of compressed natural gas (CNG), once the public gives a positive response to the drive to use environmentally-friendly fuel to reduce dependency on oil-based fuels.
“I ask taxis, buses, bajaj and private vehicles to gradually use CNG,” president said after officially opening a CNG station, owned by state oil and gas company PT Pertamina, on Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan, East Jakarta, Saturday.
Susilo asked the public to save energy amid the increasing consumption of oil, the price of which has now surged to more than US$80 per barrel.
Earlier in the day, Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro officially launched the sale of Biosolar, the country’s first biodiesel blend fuel at state oil and gas company Pertamina’s headquarters in Jakarta.
The launch of the biodiesel blend marked a new era in the commercial use of renewable energy in the country’s transportation sector.
