LONDON (Reuters) – The government, facing a looming electricity shortage and anxious to secure future energy supplies, will launch an urgent public consultation process on power sources on January 23, environmentalists said on Thursday.
The review, announced last year, is driven by the need to slash emissions of climate warming carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels, decommission ageing nuclear power plants and the fact that the country is set to become a net energy importer.
