In recent years, Gulf Coast hurricanes reminded oil companies and offshore drillers they are little match for Mother Nature.
But improvements in everything from weather forecasting to rig tie-downs may give the energy industry more of a fighting chance this hurricane season.
To be sure, the issue of hurricane readiness, for an industry pushing into ever deeper waters in search of oil and natural gas, is not going away.
This week, at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, the topic will be addressed in at least two panel discussions, in a stack of technical papers and in product displays on the sprawling trade show floor.
