Q: Help! I am facing a near revolt in my small office due to rising gas prices. I have a crew of independent salespeople who have, traditionally, covered a large territory (a few counties each) and paid for their own gas out of commissions. They now want me to pay for this expense, but I can’t afford it, either. What do we do?
A: You are definitely not the only small business owner is this predicament, Jim, that’s for sure. According to the motor club AAA, gas prices are 18% higher than the same time last year, and recent reports I have read indicate that we should all expect them to go up another 25 cents a gallon by summer.
And what if I told you that is the good news? Because it is.
The bad news? On Meet the Press on Sunday, Energy Secretary Sam Bodman said that we should probably expect high gas prices like we are experiencing lately to last, get ready for this, “two or three years.”
