FUTURE FUELS

The energy challenge faced by developing countries is indeed enormous. According to the World Energy Outlook 2005, the energy demand will increase by over 50% by 2030 and carbon dioxide emissions by 52%, if policies remain unchanged. The investment needs of developing countries during the next 25 years are approximately pegged at $5 trillion. In addition to this, New and Renewable Energy Policy Statement 2005 states that the priority of the country is to develop substitutes for liquid, gaseous and solid fossil fuels, in that order.
