Fuel prices take toll on Hampton Schools budget

The high price of fuel is taking its toll on the Hampton Schools budget.

The School Board has seen a 30% increase in the cost of fuel to keep the buses rolling. They’re also seeing a nearly 40 percent increase in heating bills to keep schools comfortable.
With prices like that, officials are taking steps to save money while minimizing the impact on the classroom.

Bus routes and field trips were tweaked early in the school year.  Now, the School Board is putting in reserve money that might have been spent on equipment intended for use outside the classroom.
